Tardeadas and the Emergence of Tejano Involvement at The Club Westerner
Presented by Sydney Salazar, Graduate Researcher in Historic Preservation
Based on her master’s thesis, Sydney Salazar explores the vibrant and complex social history of one of Victoria’s historic dance halls. This presentation celebrates The Club Westerner’s legendary culture of Tejano music performances and Sunday afternoon Conjunto tardeadas. Moving beyond celebration to preservation, Salazar advocates for a holistic, oral history-driven approach to documenting spaces like The Club Westerner, demonstrating how research-based policy and planning can protect vital cultural heritage.
Salazar has recently received her Master of Science degree in Historic Preservation of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin.
